Mercury adds new food and Forno revamps its happy hour

Last weekend Matthew and I stopped by one of our favorite spots, Mercury, to find they’d updated their food menu with some real gems.

The highlight of what we tried is the new Dr. Pepper barbecue chicken sandwich: tender, sweet meat stacked deep on an absolutely delicious cornbread and honey biscuit bun. A pile of red cabbage slaw cools things down and adds the right amount of creaminess.

We also tried their new charred broccoli – it’s fair to say that Mercury has a way with vegetables. Their roasted carrot and polenta dish is one of my favorites in town. Add this new broccoli, with its blackened edges and hits of bacon and Sriracha, to that list, too.

So much happy hour at Forno

Lots of changes this week over at Forno, Dante’s sister restaurant in the Blackstone District. The restaurant made its happy hour daily from 5-6:30 p.m.

Specials include $2 chips, a $2.50 sandwich made on their special tigelle bread, any pizza for $7, $5 glasses of Chardonnay or pinot nero, $3 Peroni beers and $5 house cocktails. The restaurant also now has half price wine all day Wednesday and Sunday, a $3 daily pour of amaro and $4 drinks during weekend brunch service.
