If you’ve ever dreamed of getting a whole roasted Peking duck in the Blackstone district, your dreams are about to come true.
Jose Dionicio, of Ika Ramen, JoJo’s diner and Taqueria Chignon, has taken over the former Forno space, at 3852 Farnam St., which closed this summer.
He’s opened a new concept, Lucky Tiger Izakaya, to serve ramen and sushi and make good use of the wood fire oven with roasted whole ducks and bibimbap bowls.
“We decided to take the chance, even though it’s been quite a year,” Dionicio said.
The restaurant has a sushi bar, serving rolls, nigiri, sashimi, poke bowls and raw small plates.
He described Lucky Tiger as “Ika for Blackstone,” with more of a sit-down restaurant feel and a menu broader than the ramen-focused spots he has in the Old Market and Benson.
The fire-engine red wood fired oven stayed in the space, and Dionicio is putting it to good use, roasting whole ducks, which he said he hopes becomes a staple dish for the restaurant, and bibimbap bowls cooked in the oven. The team spent several months perfecting the duck.
For now, the restaurant’s outdoor seating is closed, but Dionicio expects it to open next year. Lucky Tiger will be open with its full menu until 10 p.m. weeknights and a late night food menu and full bar until 2 a.m. on weekends.
Right now, the restaurant is limiting capacity and distancing diners as much as it can. Though it’s not yet on any takeout or delivery apps, diners can still get takeout by calling the restaurant directly, at 531) 213-2443.
